What is intelligent document processing?

Intelligent document processing (IDP) is software that reads business documents, extracts the information you need, checks that it is correct and passes clean data to your other systems. It replaces typing data from documents and checking it by hand.

Until now, IDP has been an enterprise project, with high licence costs and long setup. Abscode IDP brings the same result to businesses of every size: send documents in, get verified data out.

How it works

How does Abscode IDP work?

Every document, or every set of documents for one case, goes through five steps.

1. Intake

Documents arrive from a watched folder, an email inbox, or your own software through the IDP SDK. Documents that belong together, such as a vendor's registration papers, can be sent in as one case.

2. Extract

IDP reads each document and pulls out the fields you need, such as invoice number, date, GSTIN, amounts, employee name, PAN or bank details.

3. Validate

AI analysis and a rules engine check every value before it leaves IDP. Typical checks:

  • Required fields and documents are present
  • Formats are correct, for example GSTIN, PAN, IFSC and dates
  • Values match a list you provide, such as your vendor or employee list
  • Documents in the same case agree with each other, for example the name on the PAN card matches the name on the form

4. Review (optional)

Documents that pass every check go straight through. Documents that fail a check go to your team, with the problem shown, to correct or approve. Your team handles the exceptions only.

5. Export

Verified data goes to a folder as a file, or straight into your system through the IDP SDK.

In development, not available at launch: table and line-item extraction, the duplicate invoice number check, and the GSTIN to PAN cross-check. Ask us where these stand before you plan a process around them.

Invoice data extraction and validation

Abscode IDP reads vendor invoices, including GST invoices, extracts the invoice details and checks them before your team posts or pays them.

  • Reads: vendor invoices as PDF, scan or photo, from a folder or the accounts email inbox
  • Extracts: vendor name, GSTIN, invoice number and date, taxable value, CGST, SGST or IGST, total and PO number
  • Checks: GSTIN format, the vendor is in your vendor list, and the PO number is present
  • Sends on: verified invoice data as a file your accounting team can import, or into your system through the SDK

Vendor onboarding documents

Abscode IDP reads the documents a new vendor sends, extracts the details for your vendor master and checks that they agree with each other.

  • Reads: GST registration certificate, PAN card, cancelled cheque or bank letter, Udyam (MSME) certificate
  • Extracts: legal name, GSTIN, PAN, address, bank account number and IFSC
  • Checks: the name matches across documents, IFSC format, and no required document is missing
  • Sends on: vendor master data ready to load into your system

Employee joining documents

Abscode IDP reads the documents a new employee submits, extracts the details HR needs and flags anything missing or mismatched before the data reaches payroll.

  • Reads: joining form, PAN card, address proof, bank details, offer and appointment letters
  • Extracts: name, date of birth, PAN, address, bank account number and IFSC
  • Checks: name and date of birth match across documents, PAN and IFSC formats, and every required document is present
  • Sends on: employee data for your HR or payroll system

Purchase orders and delivery notes

Abscode IDP turns purchase orders, delivery challans and proof-of-delivery documents into checked system entries.

  • Reads: purchase orders, delivery challans, proof-of-delivery documents
